Quarterly Statistics
Mobile Network Operators,
EU 27
Q2 2007
Chart
Dataxis provides a comprehensive monitoring of most, if not all, mobile operators in the world, representing close to 3bn subscribers identified at the end of Q2 2007. Our research looks of course more specifically at 2G and 3G, (including 3G+), as well as post-paid and prepaid offers. There are two major trends in the market: in developing countries, mobile, generally prepaid 2G offers are very quickly developing, also at the expense of fixed network operators. More advanced services are not expected very soon to appear. In developed countries, the mobile market is more mature. There is a more room to introduce new services such as mobile internet, mobile tv and radio services, emerging markets that Dataxis is also tracking.
Direct Fixed Telephony,
Latin America Top 5
Q2 2007
Figure
Dataxis looks at the development of the direct fixed telephony market worldwide. Our primary research is our course related to the analogue (PSTN/ISDN) operators, worldwide. But this market is declining quickly, because of the mobile substitution underway, and increasing competition. These new direct competitors are our course also the focus of Dataxis research, in particular cable telephony (overlay, cablephone, vocable), and in developing countries wireless local loop (generally CDMA based). Eventually, all analogue switch-off will also occur for existing PSTN/ISDN operators which will use VOIP only.
Digital Cable TV,
Central Europe
Q2 2007
Figure
Dataxis covers the whole television market. From free to air to pay TV, from analogue and digital. We look at all transmission platforms available: cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting, MMDS, DSL, fiber. We are also monitoring the emerging mobile/personal broadcast TV markets, being the Japanese One-Seg, DMB-T, DMB-S, DVB-H or MediaFlo. The major technological trends are the gradual conversion of all analogue TV signals to digital ones, and the rapid development of IPTV. This has enabled the emergence of many new value added TV services that we are also tracking: HDTV (High Definition TV), DVR (Digital Video Recorders), VOD (Video on demand), and interactive TV.

Further, we look both at access network operators (being incumbents, alternative carriers using unbundling, cable TV, fiber-based and wireless local loop operators), as well Internet Services Providers which do not necessarily own the local loop but buy a service wholesale.
