Video on demand (VOD) over the TV set is a distinctive feature that can be provided only by TV operators with a two-way network. While in the USA, most cable operators have it readily available, and offer a variety of modes of uses (pay per view, subscription VOD, free VOD), it is only emerging in many other regions, in particular in Europe, where IPTV operators are now all able to propose the service, while cable still has to launch them in many cases.
