Digit4Play | Television
Dataxis covers the whole television market. From free to air to pay TV, from analogue and digital. We look at all transmission platforms available: cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting, MMDS, DSL, fiber. We are also monitoring the emerging mobile/personal broadcast TV markets, being the Japanese One-Seg, DMB-T, DMB-S, DVB-H or MediaFlo. The major technological trends are the gradual conversion of all analogue TV signals to digital ones, and the rapid development of IPTV. This has enabled the emergence of many new value added TV services that we are also tracking: HDTV (High Definition TV), DVR (Digital Video Recorders), VOD (Video on demand), and interactive TV.

- Pay TV distribution : Dataxis provides a quarterly update (households passed, subscriber base, penetration, net adds...) of all digital pay television distribution platforms in the world, by operator and type of access technology (cable, satellite, terrestrial, MMDS, IPTV including xDSL & fiber).
- High Definition TV
- High Definition TV: In a more and more competitive pay-TV market, HDTV has become high on the agenda of many operators. Altough HDTV is currently mainly an option of pay-TV bouquet, it is also part of the analogue to digital terrestrial free to air conversion policy. Dataxis provides a detailed analysis of the development of HDTV, updated quarterly, per country, and per operator.
- Digital Video Recorders
- Digital Video Recorders: Like HDTV, DVR (Digital Video Recorders) is sold by pay-TV operators as an option, more and more often in combination with HDTV. This section looks at the pay-TV PVR market, by region, country and operator.
- Video on demand
- Video on demand: Video on demand (VOD) over the TV set is a distinctive feature that can be provided only by TV operators with a two-way network. While in the USA, most cable operators have it readily available, and offer a variety of modes of uses (pay per view, subscription VOD, free VOD), it is only emerging in many other regions, in particular in Europe, where IPTV operators are now all able to propose the service, while cable still has to launch them in many cases.
